What is the SemesterTicket?

The SemesterTicket is a ticket that entitles students of the Justus-Liebig University and the University of Applied Sciences Gießen-Friedberg to ride local transportation in the state of Hessen free of charge. The University of Fulda does not, at the time being, offer its students a SemesterTicket.

What can I do with the SemesterTicket?

With the SemesterTicket you can ride free of charge in all public service vehicles (e.g. buses, trams, trains) of the Rhein-Main Traffic Association (RMV), the North Hessen Traffic Association (NVV) as well as the regional trains (die Regionalzüge) of the German Rail (die Deutsche Bahn). Travel aboard ICE, EC and IC trains are not covered by your ticket. Simply put, you ride for free in most areas of Hessen!

How can I get a SemesterTicket?

If you are an enrolled student and have paid your semester dues and tuition, you already have one! The SemesterTicket is built in to your student ID (see white strip pictured on the student ID below).

Please do not forget to initialize your student ID card! If you fail to do so, the information for your SemesterTicket will not be visible on your card (it will be printed on your card by one of our initialization machines).

Additional information regarding your SemesterTicket:

Costs for the SemesterTicket are included in your semester dues (der Semesterbeitrag)
The SemesterTicket is valid for one semester
The SemesterTicket is only valid in the 2nd class of trains - however, you may upgrade to 1st class for a fee
The use of EC, IC- and ICE-trains is not covered by your SemesterTicket
The SemesterTicket is non-transferable
